Explore Goa

Lying on the western coast, Goa is India’s smallest state and unlike any other, known for its endless beaches, stellar nightlife, eclectic seafood, world-heritage listed architecture. Spread across just 3,702 km, Goa lies in the Konkan region. It is a far cry from the hippie haven or a beach getaway, and one of the only few destinations that is open 24×7. The laid-backness (susegad) of Goa attracts as many international tourists as it does Indians, or even more so.

Details

By the shore of Arabian Sea, Goa, a small Indian state sits pretty on the Western coast. Aside numerous pretty beaches dotting the sea, Goa unfolds luminous layers of history for a curious soul. A walk on the old Goa’s narrow cobbled (and UNESCO heritage) streets tells volume on the 450 years of Portuguese colonial past. Tambi Surla, a Shiva temple hidden on in the forest of Bhagwan Mahaveer Sanctuary has stories to tell from another era. Beyond the sunny long stretched shore of Baga and Candolim, Goa keeps her secrets in the lagoons and backwaters of Mandovi river. It had always been my dream to travel to Goa for seven days. When I finally did, I wished if only I would have had another couple of weeks to explore all the splendors the state has on offer.

Upon reaching Goa, you can check-in to your hotel, and either opt to spend your day relaxing, or head out to explore the nearby markets. It’s advisable that you plan your trip in such a manner that you reach as close to a beach as possible, so that you can have the second half of your day to explore the nearby areas.
After having your breakfast, you can set off to North Goa, and enjoy some remarkable sightseeing tours of historical churches and forts. Of course, beaches would be on your itinerary; if you ask us, we would recommend visiting Vagator, Baga, and Calangute beaches, where you can also indulge in some thrilling water sports. Later, you can move around Mapusa; then if you have time, pay a visit to Shri Bodegshwar Temple. End your day on a high note and return to your hotel for a tight sleep.
Apart from the beaches of Goa, North Goa has a cultural side too that the visitors can check out to feel the real essence of the place. Home to more than 450 years old Mangeshi Temple, Ponda village lures visitors from far and near. Goa further exhibits a distinct influence on Portuguese culture., whereas its vibrant natural landscape, culinary specialities, and lively lifestyle offer a distinct identity of the state.
After breakfast, start your day by exploring the traditional roots of Old Goa and check out Basilica Bom Jesus Church and Se Cathedral. Then, you can rent a bike or a car to visit the most popular beach in South Goa, the beautiful Palolem Beach, to spend some time relaxing. While South Goa does not match up to the part and lively vibes of North Goa, it has some of the finest beaches of the Indian subcontinent, including Varca Beach, Agonda Beach, Colva Beach, and Butterfly Beach. Later on, you can explore the bustling markets around.
While you must be thinking that North Goa is home to the best beaches, then you are forgetting the Dudhsagar Falls, which should be one of the highlights of your trip. Start your day early, so that you can spend enough time here to appreciate the beauty of this place. Of course, Goa gets even prettier than when it rains, and the waterfall, far from the tourist hotspots, literally comes alive during the monsoon. After this, you can visit the Aguada Fort, which lies within one-and-half hours by road from the falls.
On the sixth day, you can opt to visit beaches during daytime, and then head out to enjoy some shopping. If the sixth day of your trip falls on a Saturday, you are lucky! You get to experience the vibrancy and authenticity of Goa in street markets, whereas live music fills the air. Plus, the food stalls lining up the streets one after another, will keep you engaged.
On the last day of your trip, you might be busy packing your stuff to get back home, but you can easily take some time out in the evenings or early morning. Get to the ocean at one of the nearby beaches, call it a day while watching the sunset and take home memories of a lifetime.
